Eyes 1.0

'Angry eyes'

Produced in Oct 2019

This piece is of my little brother Levi. For this drawing, I decided to take photos of the process, mostly for my own satisfaction, but it may be interesting for others to see how it came together!

Whenever I draw eyes, I begin with the irises and work my way outwards. For the pupil and the outer rim of the iris I use a black fine liner pen to create depth. If I accidentally fill in areas of the eye that are supposed to be light reflections, I use a bit of white acrylic paint to add the light back in.

To shade in the lighter areas of the skin I use a fine pencil, like an F, H, 2H, or 3H. Then to make the skin smooth, I use either tissue or a cotton bud to buff out the pencil lines. I use a softer pencil, like a B, 2B, or 4B to shade in darker areas of the face, such as around the eyes, and create texture on the skin.

Eyelashes are the WORST. I hate drawing them in because they can very quickly look like spiders. So I use pencil first and then go over them in fineliner. One day I will master the art of the eyelash...

To create highlights, such as on the bridge of the nose and in the eyebrows, I just use a rubber - simples!

Et voila. Overall this took me about a week to complete, which sounds like a long time, and it is, but I don't mind because I enjoy doing it! This is definitely the drawing I'm most proud of to date, and I hope future pieces turn out similar.
